Dark Chocolate Breakfast Mix

I am forever experimenting with new and exciting things I can top my smoothie bowls with. Last week mum asked me to come up with a mix she can put on top of her yogurt for breakfast and she really liked it. This one is similar but I went nuts with the cacao. This mix is not overly sweet because I really wanted the dark chocolate taste to come through. I recommend giving it a taste and if you want it a little bit sweeter add a couple of tablespoons of maple syrup or honey and pulse until well distributed. This mix is so easy to take on the go in a container with some yogurt and berries for breaky or for an afternoon snack. RECIPE (makes about 3 cups)

 

Ingredients:

1 cup oats (I use spelt oats)

½ cup almonds

½ cup macadamias

½ cup sunflowers seeds

1/3 cups dates

2 tbsp cacao

½ tsp cinnamon

 

Method:

  1. Put the oats, almonds, macadamias and sunflower seeds on a baking tray lined with baking paper.

  2. Roast in a 180C oven for 25 minutes or until the nuts are golden brown. Allow to cool for 30 minutes.

  3. Add the oat mix, dates, cacao and cinnamon to a food processor. Pulse until it forms a fine crumb.

  4. Distribute the mix into a container or glass jar for storage.
