Orange and Cinnamon Breakfast Dust

This energy dense dust is my new favourite breakfast addition. I love it on top of coconut yogurt or on top of my smoothie bowls paired with cacao nibs and fresh fruit. The subtle orange flavour with the cinnamon has been so comforting in the cooler months. I don’t personally add a sweetener to mine because I will get the sweetness from the fruit I pair with it. However, when I made a special batch for my mum I added a few dried figs to the food processor which gave the dust a sweeter taste. I used the nuts and seeds that I love but I highly encourage you to use your favourites! I have made this with brazil nuts, pistachios and cashews and all of them worked so well! I really hope you give this a go, it doesn’t take too long and makes enough to last a few weeks. If you do make this, please send me a picture because I would absolutely LOVE to see!


Recipe (Makes about 4 cups)



2 cups oats (I used spelt oats)

½ cup almonds

½ cup walnuts

1 cup mixed seeds (I used pepita seeds, sunflower seeds and flax seeds)

Zest of one orange

2 tbsp cinnamon



  1. Line two large baking trays with baking paper.

  2. Pour the oats, almonds, walnuts and mixed seeds onto the trays in a single layer.

  3. Bake in a 180C oven for 15-20 minutes or until the nuts and seeds are roasted to your liking.

  4. Add the toasted oats, almonds, walnuts and mixed seeds into a food processor along with the orange zest and cinnamon. Pulse until it forms a fine crumb. Personally I like a bit of crunch so I leave a few larger pieces in there.

  5. Store in large jars for up to 2 months.
